My first week's homework for the DHC Blues Harpstyle Webinar Not sure about this route I am taking, and there is more rough sailing to come.
The Blues are foreign territory. I have never purposely listened to the blues, and lack any basis for knowing or appreciating or revering them. I dug into the Deborah Henson Conant (DHC)Blues Harpstyle webinar , just as I was starting the DHC Harness Your Muse Mentorship program. Both demanding. The reason I took on the blues was because it was free with my HYMM, so I would take advantage of what it had to offer. It might give me ideas to use in composition.

During the first week while preparing my blues homework for the course, I began to think it was too much work and distraction for me, and that I had confirmed that the blues held no real interest. The blues idiom was not calling me. But, gritting my teeth, I was going to get that homework done, anyway. And then several hours into it, I realized it was fun, that I was smiling as I played and laughing at myself; the self-consciousness of counting in the beat; and then trying to nail this music form that was so alien.
